Wearing masks can be difficult and this can be especially so when wearing them for long periods of time. In my most recent trip to Disney World, I experienced what it was like and I found a few do and do nots to wearing a mask in Disney World!

1: Test Several Masks Before Hand

I highly recommend testing several different types, materials, and sizes of masks before your trip. The one you have been wearing on and off to the store may be ok for the 30 minutes your in the store but not for an 8 hour day in the Disney parks.

2: Get a Mask Lanyard

Although you will have to wear your masks at all times while on Disney Property there are a few exceptions to the rule. Those include while eating and drinking (you must be stationary or sitting) or at one of the many Relaxation Stations within the parks. Relaxation Stations are placed in several areas around the park where you can take a break from your mask while socially distanced.

I recommend picking up a mask lanyard to attach to your mask for these situations. It makes it much easier to keep track of your mask and keep it clean. I used one that can be tightened at the back of the neck. This was perfect for roller coasters that could make your mask fly off. I never lost a mask but there were a few times I thought I would. Thanks to this mask lanyard with the adjustable strap insured it stayed on.

3: Ear Buddies

Even the most comfortable mask can make your ears hurt after several hours of wear for multiple days. Due to this I highly recommend picking up an ear buddy to loop the straps of your mask through so they are not behind your ears.

I have also created a type that will fit on your Minnie Ears. I used them during my trip and they were perfect. Made of elastic, they will stretch to fit any type of Minnie Ears! Simply loop them over the bands of your Minnie Ears, put on your Minnie ears, loop the elastic of your mask over each button, and Ta-Da! No ear strain and it also helps keep your ears in place!

3: Take multiple masks for each day

I can not recommend this enough! Take MULTIPLE masks for each day. I took 3 masks for each day and it worked out perfectly. I wore one in the morning and then switched it mid-afternoon. Masks can get kinda smelly and gross when wearing them for long periods of time. This is especially true when it’s hot outside! This allowed me to feel fresh and clean throughout the day. I also kept a backup in my bag in case I dropped one or something happened to one.

4: Practice wearing masks for long periods of time beforehand

If you have been working from home like me, you may not be used to wearing a mask for long periods of time. Due to this, I started wearing my masks around the house for several hours, during the weeks leading up to my trip. This allowed me to get comfortable with my masks and also break in the elastic on them.

5: Get glasses defogger

If you are a glasses or sunglasses wearer, I recommend picking up a defogger kit and treating your glasses before your trip. I decided to do this beforehand and did not have an issue.
