What’s in my Disney Park Bag?

It is crazy to say, but what is in your park bag can make or break your day in Walt Disney World. With constant price increases, trips to Disney are becoming harder and harder to afford. Due to this, having the perfect Disney park bag is extremely important. You don’t want sunburn or a blister ruin your trip because you didn’t pack the right necessities in your bag.

Picking the RIGHT Bag

Picking the right bag can be somewhat difficult for many first time Walt Disney World goers. There are so many options: Cross Bodies, Drawstring Backpacks, One Strap Backpacks, Two Strap Backpacks, Fanny Packs and MORE!

To pick the right bag you are going to have to evaluate your vacation. Are you traveling with children? Is it just a day trip? Is it in the summer or winter? These are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself when picking a park bag for Disney.

If you are traveling with children (especially small children), you may need a bigger two strap backpack like the one below. This would give you enough room to pack extra clothes, diapers, wipes, and more.

But if you are in a group of adults or older teenagers you may not need a bag that large since you are not going to need all that.

Personally, I like a one-strap sling backpack like this one. It is great for Disney in the summer because it is not too big but not too small. I can carry everything I need. You can carry it on your back or put in on your front for easy access. My mom and I enjoy wearing it on the front for this reason. It also doesn’t take up too much room on my back or chest and make me sweat.

For my trip this January I decided to switch it up a little and go with a bigger Vera Bradley Backpack. Vera Bradley is great because of how easy it is to wash. We all know that Disney does what it can to keep the parks clean, but at the end of the day it’s still pretty dirty. So having a bag that is easy to wash is a must! Also, keep this in mind when picking the color of whatever bag you choose to take. You want something that won’t show dirt.

Even though it is Flordia, the winter months can see lows of 30 to 50 degrees when the sun goes down. For this reason, I will be packing a lot of layers for my upcoming trip. But this led me to wonder where I was going to put these layers when I took them off. I love my sling backpack but it won’t fit a hoodie or flannel. This is why I decided to go with the Vera Bradley Backpack. It is just right and gives me enough room to store my normal items plus a light jacket, a hat, and gloves.

What is in my bag?

So now that we have talked about picking the right bag, let’s talk about what you should put in it.

Note: These items are going to be tailored more for the adult Disney goers. If you are traveling with children you will probably need more than this.

Covid Update

Now due to Covid, there are a few things you may want to add to your bag!

Masks

It is currently required to wear masks while on Disney property. Due to this, I recommend taking multiple masks into the parks with you to switch out throughout the day. During my last trip, I took 3 masks for each day and switched them out throughout the day. This helped me feel fresh and clean! To read Disney’s mask policy click here!

Mask Holder

I highly recommend bringing a holder or case to keep your extra masks in. I prefer something hard and plastic to keep them clean and then I am also able to wipe it off.

Ear Buddies

When wearing a mask for a long time the elastic can begin to rub your behind ears and also made them hurt. Due to this I highly, highly recommend bringing an ear buddy to loop the elastic through so it is not behind your ears.

I have also created a type that will fit on your Minnie Ears. I used them during my trip and they were perfect. Made of elastic, they will stretch to fit any type of Minnie Ears! Simply loop them over the bands of your Minnie Ears, put on your Minnie ears, loop the elastic of your mask over each button, and Ta-Da! No ear strain and it also helps keep your ears in place!

Mask Lanyard

Mask lanyards are great to use to help keep your mask clean when you take it off to eat and drink. I personally used an adjustable one that allowed me to tighten it behind my neck. This gave me reassurance that my mask wasn’t going to fly off on some of the more intense rides.

Disinfecting Wipes

Although Disney is activity cleaning and disinfecting the park, I recommend bringing disinfecting wipes with you. I used them several times a day to clean off my phone, hands, camera, and other high-touch items. I also used them on tables and benches I sat on. Having them in my bag, gave me peace of mind and made me feel safer in the parks. I personally recommend an alcohol or benzalkonium chloride-based wipe because they are skin safe and will not bleach things like Clorox wipes! Make sure to check out the CDC for more information regarding disinfecting wipes.

1. Reusable Water Bottle

Water is very expensive in Walt Disney Parks and can eat up your spending money or snack credits very quickly. This is why I always bring a small reusable water bottle with me to the parks. If you would like to read how I save hundreds every trip with this tip click here.

2. Portable Phone Charger and Cord

Do I even need to explain this one? Phones are crucial in Disney since you can do everything in the My Disney Experience App. Don’t let your phone dying be the reason you miss out on that Rock and Roll Rollercoaster Fastpass. Check out the one I use below!

Also, keep the cord handy since newer Disney Park buses have USB charging ports under the seats. This is a great new way to charge up on your way to the Magic Kingdom.

3. Hand Sanitizer

Another very obvious thing you need in the parks but also easily forgotten. Disney Parks are covered in germs and nasty. So make sure you carry a few bottles of hand sanitizer with you and use it a lot. I personally love the Bath and Body Work Hand Sanitizer because I can put it in the silicone holder and hang it from my bag.

4. Baby Wipes

I know that I said that these items would be more tailored to the adult Disney goers but baby wipes are great no matter what your age is. I use baby wipes on EVERYTHING.

Need to wipe off your phone because you got cinnamon roll icing on it? Baby wipe! (Yes this has happened to me) Have black mascara and eyeliner under your eyes because you are boiling in the hot Flordia heat? Baby Wipe!

As I said, they are universal but one of my favorite uses for them is to wipe off my arms and legs. Nothing is worse than running around in the parks all day and sitting down for a nice dinner at Tutto Italia in Epcot and feeling like you need a shower. This is where baby wipes come into play. Before my reservation, I’ll stop by a restroom and clean up a little. Baby wipes are great to wipe off your arms, legs, chest, and back. I promise you will feel 100% better and ready for a yummy meal.

I usually buy a big pack of baby wipes and put some in a Ziploc bag in my backpack. It’s a lot cheaper this way. Don’t be tricked by the travel section in the store!

5. Mini Deodorant

While we are on the topic of staying clean in the parks. Don’t forget a mini deodorant to help refreshen when using the restroom. You’ll thank me later.

6. Bandaids

Bandaids are also a very important item to slide into your park bag. Blisters can start with no warning with shoes you have had forever. Don’t take a chance, pack a few just in case.

7. Tissues

There are a lot of plants and flowers in Walt Disney World that are exclusive to the Flordia terrain that like to get many of our noses running. For this reason, I always keep a small pack of tissues with me. Tissues are also great for cleaning up messes.

8. Tide To Go Stick

These are great for all the messy eaters out there. Nothing is worse than spilling ketchup on your shirt at lunch and being forced to have it on your shirt for the rest of the day.

9. Hairbrush

Rollercoasters and long hair do not go together. So take a mini hairbrush and save yourself the aggravation of trying to shove your fingers through your hair after a ride.

10. Ibuprofen

Don’t let a headache stop you from having a good time on your vacation. I always try to carry a small bottle with me during my trips for this reason. Also remember you can stop at the first aid areas in the parks and they will have it as well if you forgot.

11. Chapstick

Because chapped lips and Disney World just don’t mix well.

12. Sunglasses and Case

I cannot stress this one enough, BRING SUNGLASSES. I know a lot of people don’t wear sunglasses regularly but in Disney World, you should. The Flordia sun is something else and you will regret not bringing them. Don’t end up having to buy a $30 pair of sunglasses because you didn’t bring any and realized spending the entire week squinting isn’t going to work.

13. Oil Bolting Sheets and Mattifying Powder

I never go to Walt Disney World without these! I use them throughout the day to help keep me from looking shinny in photos.

14. Poncho & Umbrella

It rains A LOT in Flordia and most of the time with little to no warning. Due to this, I always have a reusable poncho in my backpack. I personally like a reusable one over the cheap plastic ones because it doesn’t stick to me. The plastic ones like to stick to themselves and my legs; making me feel like a walking plastic bag. The reusable ones are also much kinder to the environment. I also pack an umbrella if the forecast is calling for rain. Umbrellas work better than ponchos in the rain but are heavy in your backpack.

15. Packable Parade Blanket

This is something new I’m going to be trying this trip. It is a reusable, packable parade blanket from Amazon. You can lay this out on the sidewalk to sit on it while waiting on a parade or firework show. I’ve seen a lot of people do this in the parks but have never tried it myself. This trip I am dying to see the new Epcot Forever firework show so I know I’ll be camping out for it. But no one wants to sit on the dirty ground and park benches are few and far between; hence the parade blanket.

16. Contact Accessories

Another easy one. If you are a contact or glasses wearer, don’t forget to pack some extra contacts and solution. You don’t want a contact bugging you to ruin your day.

17. Feminine Products

Do I even need to explain this one?

18. Sunscreen

PACK YOUR SUNSCREEN!!! I can’t stress this enough. The Flordia sun is brutal and can quickly ruin your day in Walt Disney World. I always apply sunscreen before leaving my hotel but I also keep a smaller bottle for reapplying in my backpack. This is my favorite sunscreen because it doesn’t feel heavy. Sunscreen can feel gross and greasy on your skin but this one does not.

19. Reusable Straws

There have been a few changes in the Disney Parks recently, one of them being the removal of plastic straws. Even though I love that Disney did this, I also hate paper straws. They never last the entirety of your drink and turn to mush halfway through. Due to this, I choose to carry a few metal reusable straws with me instead.

20. Mickey or Minnie Ears

Although Mickey and Minnie Ears are not a necessity, they are a great bonus to any outfit!

21. Carabiner Clip

Carabiner clips are great for clipping almost anything to your bag. I like to have one in my bag to clip my resort mug to my bag when my bag is full.

When you purchase the Disney Dining Plan you will receive a refillable resort mug to use during the duration of your trip. My biggest flaw is going back to my hotel room after a long day and not wanting to walk back to the lobby to refill it. Thanks to this handy clip I can take advantage of the mug. I will throw it in my backpack at the start of my day or clip it to the strap using the clip when my bag is full and fill it on the way back to my room.

22. Wallet and ID

Another obvious one, but can easily be forgotten thanks to everything being on your magic band.

So there it is, everything I pack in my Walt Disney World Park Bag! I hope you enjoyed this post and found it useful.

Have a Magical Day!
