Why You Should Skip Disney World in 2021

As we are now 2020 was a crazy year and as we draw closer and closer to business as usual many of us are beginning to think about vacation season for 2021. But 2021 might not be the best year to make a trip to Walt Disney World. Check out my list below for reasons why you may want to consider pushing your trip to 2022 or even 2023!

2020 Rollover

Due to the 2020 global pandemic, Walt Disney World was closed for over three months during prime spring break season. This resulted in many people moving and canceling their trips. Some may have scheduled their trip for later in the year but many push their trip into 2021. this means that we are already looking at high numbers of guests planning trips for 2021. This may be something to consider if you do not already have a trip booked.

The 50th Anniversary

2021 is going to be a big year at Walt Disney World. This is due to the fact that it is the Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World resort’s 50th anniversary. The anniversary is technically October 1, 2021, but celebrations are predicted to go on throughout the year. Due to the celebrations, many people have planned large vacations around the anniversary to take advantage of these celebrations. You can already book park reservations for October 1st and Magic Kingdom is close to capacity for that day. I expect that this will be common throughout the entire year due to the anniversary celebrations. If you are not a diehard Disney fan that wants to celebrate during the anniversary it may be worth considering moving your trip into 2022.

New Ride Delays

Even though 2021 is going to be an amazing celebration in Walt Disney World we have seen many of the new rides that were supposed to open be delayed in response to Covid. Those rides include Remi’s ratatouille adventure, guardians of the galaxy, and the Tron coaster. All three of these rides plus the new Epcot show harmonious we’re all set in place to open either before 2021 or sometime within in response to the celebrations. Now things to Covid construction has been delayed for these new attractions and intern delaying their opening dates. At this time we do not have opening dates for any of those rides where we previously had a projected season. It is very possible that we will not see some of these rides open for the 2021 celebrations. If you were planning your trip around one of those rides you may consider delaying.

COVID Restrictions

As we draw closer and closer to a vaccine we hope that one day soon life will return to normal. But we do not know how soon that will be. This means that for a large portion of 2021 we will more than likely see the strict Covid regulations enforced throughout Walt Disney World. This means masks, social distancing, handwashing and many of the other new roles continued into 2021. These are regulations that we are probably going to see well into the summer if not fall of next year. So this is something definitely to think about if you don’t want to wear a mask in the Flordia heat next summer.

50% of the experience at 100% of the price

Disney has been pushing as hard as they can to get back to normal. But not everything is back that was there before Covid. At the time of writing this post, fireworks, fast passes, the dining plan, character meet and greets and more have still not returned to the parks. Obviously, the Walt Disney Company is trying as hard as they can to bring these things back and finding new temporary solutions. But in the end, you will still be paying big money for your vacation and may not be able to experience everything that you could before Covid. I think this is something to keep in mind as we all know Disney a World is not the cheapest place on earth.

Overall 2021 is still going to be a great year in Walt Disney World if you’re planning ongoing. Always remember that you can book a trip and cancel up to 60 days beforehand if you change your mind for a full refund. Make sure to check out the rest of my blog for more Disney planning trip tips!
